One loft race (OLR) pedigrees: how to prepare

Published

In short: One loft races (OLR): how to prepare pedigrees for pigeons sent to a one loft race and how to use the results in your breeding.

In a one loft race (OLR), young pigeons from many breeders are raised and trained in a single loft and then fly the same races. All birds get the same conditions, so the result depends on the bloodline. That is why the pedigree matters so much in OLR.

Why the pedigree matters

A good OLR result proves the value of a line. A breeder with well-recorded ancestry can use it for future pairings and when selling siblings or offspring.

Record pedigrees before you send birds

Before sending youngsters to a one loft race, record each bird's pedigree: ring number, parents and grandparents. Collect paper sheets, PDFs and phone photos in one place.

Add the OLR results

After the races, add your pigeons' results in the software. They appear in the bird's pedigree and indirectly raise the value of its parents and siblings.

Stop retyping pedigrees. Pigeclub imports them from a photo or a PDF. See Pigeclub.
