Pigeon pedigree template: what it must include
In short: A racing pigeon pedigree template: which details to include, how to lay out the generations and how to prepare a pedigree for printing.
There is no single official pigeon pedigree form, but breeders have used the same layout for decades. Stick to it and buyers will read your pedigree at a glance.
Layout
The pigeon on the left. To the right, the sire on top and the dam below, then four grandparents and eight great-grandparents.
The pigeon's details
- ring number with country code, region and year,
- sex and colour,
- name, if the pigeon has one,
- breeder's name, club and contact details.
Ancestors' details
For each ancestor, the ring number and the most important results: race, distance, position. Leave empty fields empty; do not guess.
Common mistakes
- Wrong digits in a ring number.
- Missing year in the ring number.
- Sire and dam swapped: the sire always goes on top.
- Results without the size of the race: 1st of 50 is not 1st of 5,000.
Stop retyping pedigrees. Pigeclub imports them from a photo or a PDF. See Pigeclub.
